This is one of only two airworthy examples in the world. The other is in a private collection

in the UK. The fuselage is a monocoque shell of plywood with spruce springers covered with fabric.
ZK-AYR was first registered in Hatfield, England as G-AEDT in 1936. There were originally 57 built and used for executive transport. Dragonflies were flown commercially in New Zealand during the 1940's and 50's, predominantly on the West Coast of the South Island.

As well as NZ, AYR has also been flown in Australia and the USA. It was restored in England in 1986 returning to NZ in 1996. Since then it has been NZ registered and was an early addition to this collection.

In addition to standard flights, AYR was also used as an air ambulance and for aerial survey work.

23 Dragonflies were used by the Commonwealth at the start of WWII, by the end of 1945 only 6 of that number survived.
